Mrs. Helen Toews of Yarrow, B.C. passed away April 19, 1986. She was born June 1, 1898 to Johann & Helen (Wiens) Stobbe in Neu-Samara, Russia. She accepted Christ at age 18 during revival meetings conducted by missionary Frank Wiens and was baptized and joined the MB Church the same year. She married George J. Toews September 3, 1922, a union blessed with eight children. IN 1927 they immigrated to Canada, settling near Boissevain, Manitoba. In 1937 they moved to Yarrow BC.
In 1952, her husband was diagnosed as having leukemia and given up by the doctors, but her strong faith in the Lord carried her through, prayers were answered and he was restored. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1972.
She remained a devoted wife until George died in 1981. Reading God's Word and singing were a source of strength to her, and she passed these values on to her children.
Helen was predeceased by her husband in 1981, her daughter Margaret Wiens in 1966 and her grand-daughter Sharon Scheer 1971. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Lena Scheer and George Toews of Yarrow; Irma Krahn of Prince George, BC; Marion Krone of Mississauga, Ont.; Elsie Wittenberg of Vancouver, BC; Betty Klassen of Swift Current, Sask.; and Vera Heinrichs of Clearbrook, BC, 26 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
The funeral was April 24, 1986 in Yarrow MB Church with pastor Abe Klassen, Menno Home chaplain Henry Claassen and son-in-law Peter Klassen ministering. Burial was at Yarrow cemetery.
